Presentation :

Marion de Champ has been a practising artist since 1935. The important body of worked that she has produced particularly reflects her passion and interest for the human figure.

She has never belonged to a specific art movement. Her work is extremely powerful. It is a passionate and very personal search into an evocative kind of esthetic." The more I paint, the more I wish to be ellusive, and to simplify : I use strong lines when representing the figures to help create this simplification".

Marion was Andre Lhote's pupil for a while. She was also a close friend of the sculptor Etienne Martin, whom she has always admired. She has herself modelled numerous figures, mostly clay. As with the rest of her work, they are flavoured with her Egyptian experience.

Three artists undoubtedly influenced her work. Her use of colour reminds one of Cezanne, while the mysterious atmosphere that fills her painting, evokes Gauguin's work, and her subtle audacity, Picasso.

Her paintings are delicate and firm at the same time. They are filled with light and full of emotions. She creates very refined and extremely dense pieces of work through the use of harmonious colour schemes, sensitive brushmarks, and lively compositions. Her brushstrokes, sometime bold, sometime gentle, are always delicate and exact. She offers a very personal vision of the world full of beauty and introverted emotions.
